Zirconia crowns are also very aesthetically pleasing and have the ability to resemble a natural tooth in both shape and color.
A metal-ceramic combination crown is another common type. It is a combination between ceramic and metal. The newest technology in dental crowns is the CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) technique. This method does not require messy goop, but instead uses a scanner to create a 3-D model of your teeth. The milling machine then fabricates a crown out of ceramic in a shade determined by your dentist. The resulting restoration is then bonded to the prepared tooth with a resin, which is hardened by high-energy curing lights. This process allows us to provide a strong and long-lasting dental crown in a single visit! The CAD/CAM procedure also allows for less damage to healthy parts of the tooth.
